I have really curly hair. Not quite African American type hair, but thick, curly, soft frizzy hair.

I'm tired of looking like a poodle after a haircut. I've started just handing friends scissors and telling them to hack it off because professionals don't do any better, but I need a good haircut. How do I find someone who knows what they're doing around curls?
I currently live in Cincinnati. but I spend a lot of time in chicago and Indiana.
