Seems to me you’d get a more durable edge by going back and forth lapping the back of the blades and stropping the bevels until the wire edge (burr) was gone. Less fracturing of the edge.

Smart to mention …
Smart to mention that about Hair shears. Too many sharpeners ruin them by not knowing that. However when it comes to closing the shears to cut off the burrs, Don’t snap them. If those shears are out of line for whatever reason, usually from dropping, then your just gonna end up nicking them and or undoing some of the work you just did. Close them by applying pressure to the tips and slightly forcing them away from eachother till they are closed. Then open them while pushing them together.
