Cant get a job what am i to do?

Im 19 and have been trying to get a job for years, 3 years to be exact. I have had a part time job for 6 years since i was 12, i worked at The Shutter Shop and cleaned sanded shutters and helped on deliveries, so i got the work experience.

My first application (age 16) was to quick trip (a Gas station) i got a interview shore enough, was nervous as heck but i acted as professional as possible and even surprised myself. I didn’t get the job.
Right now i am waiting for either a phone call for an interview or a letter in the mail saying i don’t get the job for being a detention officer in downtown Ft. Worth, They are suppose to call/mail me today or tomorrow, but i know I am not going to get the job.

From my first application to the last 1 i filled out recently i have probably sent in around 300 applications AT LEAST! Some being the 2nd and 3rd application at the same place. I live with my dad and i don’t know what i am to do if i don’t get a job soon.

ANY advice please, im starting to become scared since i cant get a job. I live in Haltom city Texas (in Ft. Worth) if it makes a difference. I use yahoo hotjobs and job sites a lot and they are not much help.

Joshua, I would not hire or call anyone sight unseen. Take your resume into the job location and give it to whom ever is hiring. Offer to work a couple days for free. Call it training. Good luck.

Since you are writing this post, I’m assuming you have internet access.

Being an American citizen, you hold a vast advantage over anyone else in the field of working online, as the majority of jobs for working online are also in this niche.

To begin working online and make money, you could start your own blog and promote it, or your own site. You can even make money off simple things like posting comments or writing articles.

try signing applications,praying,calling up there,anything basiclly will work

Hi. It sounds like you are getting really negative about things so the first thing I think you should do is write down an inventory of all your capabilities – all the things you think you are good at or that you have achieved in your life. There is one thing an interviewer can read off an applicant straight away and that is, how confident they are. If you are down on yourself, you will be sending out the wrong signals to potential employers. Try being positive and focusing on your good qualities.

Second, really think about what you want to do with your life – what interests you and makes you happy. Make a list of jobs you think will motivate you and then see if your skills / qualities match what these types of jobs need (in terms of skills/qualifications etc). If your skills don’t match or if there are gaps, then think about what you need to close those gaps or get the right skills. Develop / draw up a plan on how you are going to get to where you want to. Don’t get frightened off or start thinking it all looks too hard. So much is possible if you set your mind to it and have a plan that you stick to. Find a way to stick to your plan and do what you need to do to get the job you want.

Have someone review your job applications and help you develop questions and answers for an interview before going into an interview. It is really important to know what to expect and prepare and practice appropriate responses to questions that may be asked. Every job application should be tailored for each position/company. Prepare questions to ask them – it’s a two way street – find out if it’s a place you really want to work at too.

I hope that helps. It is so important to show you believe in yourself and to match your skills / personal traits to the job you are applying for.

It sounds like you are applying for jobs you are not qualified for. What skills do you have? What special training or education? Sit down and make a list.

How about your appearance? Clean, hair neat, suitable dress. Are you speaking clearly and smiling? Sit in front of a mirror and practice being interviewed — introduce yourself, point out your skills and why you’d make a good employee.

You may have to apply at fast food or gas stations. Don’t expect to get high paying jobs with limited experience and skills.

You should also call back to check on your application after about a week. If you are actually interviewed, send a note thanking them for taking the time to speak with you.
