Christmas presents for my four legg...

Hello to everyone,

I'm new here!

I am a professional dog walker on Sydney's North Shore. This year I am really lost for ideas when it comes to Xmas presents for my dogs.

I have approx 17 dogs, and 3 cats which I am catering for this year. I will be making / baking some doggie cookies which I have tried and tested – although I need something else to add to this.

I am open to ANY suggestions! Although my budget is very mini! I am willing to sew (dont have a sewing machine though), buy, make, cook, travel … hahah .. anything!

Try www.petedge.com! They are a wholesale kennel distributor, they have great prices on dog supplies. I'm a groomer, and I have several private clients I've been working for for several years. Every year I buy each dog a little gift bag of small toys, treats, a little sweater or decorative collar to wear on Christmas day, etc. Last year everybody got a professional set of grooming brushes and combs as well, because all my clients try hard to keep up with their grooming. You can find ANYTHING on there: clothes, collars, bowls, toys, treats, little jewelry charms for their collars, bows, bandannas, you name it! I'm sure you could find a personal little gift for each client you have, and it's all very cheap- $5-$10 for the clothing, $5 or less for collars, and the toys are just a buck or two a piece. They have cat supplies too. Oh, and for Christmas they offer those prepackaged plastic stockings with about 5 toys inside, they charge like $2.50 per stocking (compared to $20 from Petsmart).

In fact, I need to hurry up and get my Christmas order in!

Bake them homemade dog treats. You can get a bone shaped cookie cutter and go to town.

You can stitch up catnip pillows for the cats and buy a lot qty of bandanas for the dogs, which you can use to tie up their treats in! (You can use them to make the pillows too).
Catnip Pillows:
1. Cut pieces of fabric into approximately 4" by 4" square.
2. Take two pieces of fabric and put them together with print-sides facing each other.
3. Sew three sides to make a pocket.
4. Turn pocket inside out, so print side is showing.
5. Fill about 3/4 of the way full with polyester stuffing and about 1 teaspoon of catnip.
6. Fold top of pocket inside and sew shut.

why don't you make some felt stockings and fill with treats? maybe a paw shaped "stocking" with their name on it..

What I always did was to get some pens with the breed on it for the owners and took two briskets and tied them together with a bow for the dog.

I also did a similar thing for cats. A cat pen and a bag of cat treats

I ordered the pens from one of the animal magazines, I think it was Foster and Smith and just bought the briskets & cat treats from the store

Everyone loved it and it didn’t break the bank!

My vet often puts little neckerchiefs out in the lobby for dog owners to buy for $1.00. They dont hem them, but rather cut them with pinking shears.
Since they'd prob be lost by next Christmas, just a temporary cutsie thing to wear.
You could get a buy some Christmas material and make quite a few per yard. Big dogs need bigger so it would depend on the size of the dog.
I think your answer is go to a craft store and get ideas or ask someone there.

cats are easy. either cut peices of material or buy baby socks and fill with catnip. Maybe throw in a few jingly balls and fuzzy mice. If you get the toys from a dollar store its usually 3 or more packs for a dollar.

Dogs can be more difficult. The bigger they are the faster they shred through toys but you can also find little stuffed dog toys at the dollar store.

Another good gift for both would be soft blankets. Sometimes you can find them for $2 at walmart in the pet section.
Or you could buy some christmas print polar fleece, cut 2 squares big enough for the dog to lay on and sew them together (with or without stuffing them)

Depending on how much you want to spend, you could also get gift cards for the local pet shop. But with 20 animals at $5 or $10 each…that $100-$200!!

I like the other suggestion of personalized stockings too.
